Essex JOY Sunbrella® Fabric (NEW COLORWAY!)
Classic marks, lined up in a stellar rhythm. Dots. Dashes. Ogees. Repeat. A tiny tonal tribute to geometry.
During the 1940’s we entered a period of rapid growth under the leadership of second generation owner Lucile (Stockwell) Chatain, who joined her father in running the business upon her graduation from New York’s Parsons School of Design.
With her vision, our brand began to offer a much wider range of pattern types, all with one new and important characteristic: they were all exclusive to our brand. Chatain employed many of her fellow recent graduates to design textile patterns that were truly proprietary; patterns that ranged from the bold and botanical to the subtle and textural.
Ditsy geometrics like Essex became a signature for our brand that transcended generations and had obvious staying power. Originally released in 1943, Essex conveys a vague wartime reference to morse code or radar - perhaps Lucile’sway offinding beauty in an otherwise extremely dark era.
Sunbrella® is a registered trademark of Glen Raven, Inc.
