Serena Dugan is an artist and textile designer based in Sausalito, California. With an education in both Psychology and Fine Art, Serena has spent the past 20 years developing her imprint as a painter and designer — first as Chief Creative Officer of Serena & Lily, the home and lifestyle brand she launched 15 years ago, and now at the helm of her namesake brand.
Serena’s rallying belief is in the power of art to transform an environment into an experience. This can take the form of an energetic painting or a striking pattern that defines and enlivens a space. Her background in both mediums allows her to toggle between the two as she explores the themes of rhythm and form. With pattern, her focus is on creating harmony through repetition, shape, and placement. With painting, she creates impact through layering and composition. Each art form sharpens the other by means of opposition — both equally representative of her aesthetic fingerprint.All of her designs take their cue from a global reference -- a locale, a decorative motif, or flora and fauna that she then reinterprets through her own artistic lens.

INTRODUCING THE SHELTER ISLAND COLLECTION
“My fabric and wallpaper additions this season were all inspired by the house I’m designing, building and decorating in Shelter Island, New York.
On the Eastern tip of Long Island, positioned between the Hamptons and the North Fork, Shelter Island connects North and South by car ferry. As you get out there you’re greeted by salt air and beach grasses, the sound of bullfrogs and country roads lined by Osprey nests and farm stands. It’s sedate. It’s magic.
On Shelter Island, I’m creating a home that represents this feeling of ease, warmth, beauty and spirit using my own fabrics and wallpapers (plus a few vintage pieces from my collection). Through the decorating process I discovered what I wanted that was still missing from my line, and designed it. This Spring ‘24 Collection is made up of the fabrics, wallpapers, and new colorways that completed the vision of this home.
Batik influences mixed with Jacobean reference, painterly marks with the artist’s hand visible, new printing methods, new textile approaches that expand on my original collection and express what I want to say now. I hope you enjoy these new prints as much as I do!”
